This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while. I mean, your body tells you when it’s time to call it quits. And this off-season, my body was screaming, The dream is over, baby! And I can’t argue with that. My dream was to play until I was 40 years old, and to be honest, I’m 36 now, and I’m lucky to have played as long as I did. I was never really hurt much in my career, and I didn’t spend a lot of time on the disabled list.
This could be a wise move for Minnesota. Attendance at Twins home games was down by more than 256,000 in 2016 a loss of more than 3,100 per game compared with 2015 as the team finished with baseball’s worst record at 59-103. One can only assume that Twins jersey sales took a corresponding hit, which potentially makes the team’s overture to Beyonce a cunning marketing move.
Who knows? With Beyonce and fam on their squad, the Twins could see their gear become the hottest baseball apparel of 2017. Or not. But it was worth a shot, and a nice gesture.
You’ve got to admire the Twins’ quick thinking. Because when Beyonce’s involved with anything, there’s really no such thing as bad publicity.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy, in an emailed response to the Post, called the allegations in the court filing meritless and said the league and its clubs will continue to vigorously defend themselves.
